2003-2004: A YAL Success Story

Date: 24/02/2006

Youth Against Landmine's first year in existence can be marked as a clear success. On July 5th, 2004 our selected minefield in conjunction with the Canadian Landmine Foundation was officially adopted and earmarked for clearance. This is remarkable considering YAL exists as an entirely student-run, volunteer organization with no overhead.

All YAL school members, supporters, and donors should be proud of this success. We have all contributed to the clearance of land in a small village called "Toul Pong Ro" in Cambodia. The cleared land (32,222 squared metres) will be used for the resettlement of 12 families, or 71 people in total. There is no question that we have changed the world for these families. As well, we have succeeded in having an impact back in our local communities. In this respect, YAL has operated on both fronts and in its short existence it has been a surprising success.

Congratulations to everyone, especially the villagers of Toul Pong Ro.
